About Us / Mission Statement“Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.” Romans 12:4-6
The First Presbyterian Church of Farmington is a congregation who lives out Romans 12:4-6. By God’s grace, our members are able to use their gifts to support the mission of the church in our community. For example: The Christian Education Ministry Team is filled with people who love children and have a passion to teach Christ’s love. Our VBS has been held in cooperation with other area churches. We have been truly blessed in the past few years to touch up to 43 children each year. Not only do we feed them through God’s word but also provide a free meal each night, made possible by the generosity of the congregation. Another example is our Fellowship Ministry Team who organizes quarterly mission dinners which have benefited and supported Wounded Warriors, the Food Pantry, Little Farmers Back Pack Program, Fulton County Crisis Center, Friendship House, etc. We also have phenomenal Deacons who have been trained and mentored to provide love, encouragement and support though nursing home visits, a card ministry, serving communion to shut-ins, showing compassion for the grieving and providing help to the needy. Our greatest asset is our congregation who actively participate in mission, the choir, Sunday school, and community outreach. We faithfully work to bring hope to our community through the devotion of our members. We take joy in our ability to encourage and help our pastors to be successful by lifting them and their families up in prayer, giving them space to try new things and sometimes fail, and gently offer suggestions for their professional growth. We have a beautiful pre-Civil War brick house of worship which has been a landmark both physically and spiritually in the community for 175+ years. We have a three bedroom, 1.5 bath manse with a large yard across the street from a park and playground. Our Trustees work tirelessly to keep our facilities in top condition. We are blessed with people who work diligently on the session to represent both the congregation and pastor. We also have ministry teams collaborate with the ruling body, pastor and congregation. This body of believers lives out a reflection of Christ’s love by being His heard and hands. Farmington is a friendly rural bedroom community approximately 20 miles from Peoria, a large metropolitan city. As a result, we have the benefit of nearby amenities such as theaters, concerts, shopping, sporting events and much more. There are six churches in Farmington, three of which make up the Council of Churches who award scholarships to graduating seniors who have been active in their church. Farmington has a newer state-of-the-art K-12 campus with approximately 1,400 students from five communities attending. We have a new, beautiful library and a resurgence of the downtown area with new businesses. We feel the community is on an upswing. |
